Please bear with us as we build a new blog.  We will not be posting anything new until we are all set-up.  Once set-up, we will have a new name (although offbeatweddingplanner will still work), a new look and great new (and old) content.

Nowadays, you can obtain just about any flower you want for your wedding if you have a big enough pocket book.  Tulips in June or July?  Sure, if you fly them in from Holland.  But, to save money, you’ll want to choose flowers that are in season.  Here’s a quick list of 3 of the top wedding flowers and their availability:

Tulips:  Jan., Feb., March, April, May; Oct.-part of the month; Nov., and Dec.

Orchids:  Year Round (yay!)

Peonies:  These beauties are very popular, but sadly they are only available a few months out of the year – March, April, May and June

$6.2K EGYPT HONEYMOON

$6.2K EGYPT HONEYMOON

From Romance Travel Concierge

Whether for the mystique of the mummies, the pyramids of the pharaohs, or the river that gave Egypt its wealth + power, people of all ages have been fascinated by this land. Today, its history, land + people have captured the interest of filmmakers, scholars, + tourists. But before that, Egypt had collected innumerable kings, pharaohs, + conquerors who viewed Egypt as an invaluable prize. As a result, Egypt has recorded six millennium’s worth of humanity, mingling the ancient + modern all in one place.

It has Alexandria, founded in 331 BC by one of world’s most famous man, Alexander the Great. This city by the northern coast was known as the Pearl of the Mediterranean. In the past, it was a considered as the link between Greece + the rich Nile River Valley, serving as the crossing point of three continents – Africa, Asia + Europe. Today, it is Egypt’s second largest city with beautiful coastlines + a new rendition of Bibliotheca Alexandria, a completely modern version of the ancient world’s most famous library.

Further down the Nile is a completely different scene. Cairo, as Egypt’s capital + largest city, was found in 969 AD, which is modern compared to ancient cities such as Alexandria, Memphis + Thebes. Interestingly enough, this “modern” city is eight centuries older than the United States. The city, because of its history, is a marvelous combination of Egyptian, Islamic, European + modern construction.

Egypt is a land of camels + cars, stone pyramids + concrete apartments, sand dunes + four-lane highways. And it is precisely this eclectic yet harmonious mix that makes Egypt what it is today.

This project was originally created for a bridal show.  We wanted to show how simple clear cylindrical vases could be used in varying heights with an easy DIY wedding craft to make a stunning centerpiece.  Add a few floralytes or remove the flowers in place of candles and you get a whole new effect.

What we used:

  • Clear cylindrical vases in varying heights
  • Scraps of dupioni silk found at the fabric store in platinum and pink
  • Glue gun
  • Fabric cutter and cutting board

What we did:

  • Knowing the diameter of each vase, we accounted for a 1/4″ fold over at the seam and the top and bottom, then calculated how much fabric we would need for the number of vases we had.  Once we bought the fabric, we cut each piece to size so that the vase could easily slide in and out of the fabric wrap
  • We then folded approx. 1/4″ at the seam and glue gunned it down and did the same with the top and bottom.  We then wrapped the fabric around the vase and glue gunned the seams together (with the folded portion on the outside).

As you can see from the pictures, there are many different variations of styles you can come up with.  Tie’ing the ribbon like a corset is more difficult than it looks, but creates a nice touch especially if the bride’s dress is a corset style.  Because of it’s difficulty, it might be a good style for the sweetheart table – a special vase to match the bride on their table.

Wedding Photo Garland

Looking for a simple DIY craft to help personalize your wedding day?  Create a photo walkway.  We created these photo garlands to hang from the arbor that led the guests from the entrance to the bar.  Since a line can form most easily at a bar, we figured it would be nice to have something to look at and muse over – what better than the newly married couple?

What we used:

  • Black foam core board
  • Pictures of the couple from childhood through their dating years
  • Scanner to scan all the photos (this way we were able to get the really good ones from the Moms) & color printer to print them
  • 1 1/2″ thick ribbon in the wedding colors
  • spray adhesive
  • paper cutter
  • Glue gun

What We Did:

  • Scanned & printed all the photos
  • Cut out each picture and grouped them from childhood on up (each side of the foam core board was used, so remember to group accordingly)
  • We then cut out the foam core board in varying sizes according to the pictures.  We measured and cut the ribbon and put a slip knot at the top.  We then attached the ribbon to 3 or 4 boards using the glue gun, making sure to leave space between each board and to leave about 6-12″ of ribbon on top and about 3-4″ on the bottom.  We folded the bottom of the ribbon up, glue gunned it and glue gunned a little shell (it was a beach theme).  Depending on where you’re hanging them from, you can use twine to hang at different or the same level.
  • Finally, we sprayed adhesive onto the board and attached the pictures

We found this great idea at http://www.mydiyweddingday.com/2010/01/cute-calendar-wedding-date-keepsake.html

One of the hardest areas to decorate at a wedding has got to be the seating card-guest book table. It’s the first things guests see when they arrive at your reception, so you want to make a good impression. With that in mind, we knew this DIY project would be the perfect solution. Your finished piece will look just as adorable sitting on the table, as it will look hanging in your home’s entryway after the honeymoon. Added bonus: Your future husband will never have an excuse for forgetting your anniversary! To make it, try seeking out a flea market or antique shop to find a great deal on vintage house numbers. You can also try purchasing a few different styles, like these from Anthropologie or Ace Hardware. Mount the numbers to a sturdy backing by pinning or using a silicone adhesive, then frame with a mat board. Finally, place in a frame that reflects your wedding style. (Try a wooden one if your style is rustic, or go with sleek silver if you’re more of a traditional bride.) –Jen DeRose Thanks to Hazelnut Photography!
